Reproductive Life Planning for Substance Use Disorder Services
Background: Deciding if or when to have children is an important life decision. Planned pregnancies are associated with increased healthy behaviors, improved reproductive health, and positive birth outcomes.
Studies show that individuals are receptive to counseling focused on reproductive life planning and contraceptive use when it is offered as part of comprehensive, on-site, substance use disorder treatment.
This online, self-paced, training course:
Examines the benefits of Reproductive Life Planning
Provides fact-based information on essential reproductive health topics including: reproductive biology, sexually transmitted infections, effective contraceptive use and preparing for a healthy pregnancy
Presents a framework that supports conversations with individuals receiving services for substance use disorders about reproductive health
Discusses access and availability of resources and services for Reproductive Life Planning health decisions
This training course will take learners approximately 2.5 hours to complete.
The Public Health Nursing Institute for Continuing Excellence is approved as a provider of nursing continuing professional development by the North Carolina Nurses Association, an accredited approver by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation.
UNC SSW, 1406, is approved to offer social work continuing education by the Association of Social Work Boards (ASWB) Approved Continuing Education (ACE) program. Organizations, not individual courses, are approved as ACE providers. State and provincial regulatory boards have the final authority to determine whether an individual course may be accepted for continuing education credit.
