The NCPGP, along with the NC Division of Mental Health, Developmental Disabilities and Substance Use Services, Morneau Shepell, and UNC Chapel Hill School of Social Work/Behavioral Health Springboard work together to bring to our state the Sure Bet Training Series, and to develop the NCPGP Provider Registry. These webinars are intended to educate NCPGP Providers, as well as other behavioral health providers, about risk factors, incidence rates, impact, and treatment strategies for working with people with problematic gambling behavior. Training Description: To raise awareness and provide education, the North Carolina Problem Gambling Program (NCPGP) and the Division of MH/DD/SAS are sponsoring a three day workshop to provide in-depth knowledge about problem gambling and treatment interventions. In this training, topics of problem and gambling disorder, gambling counseling theory and practice, regulations and ethical issues, and financial aspects of remuneration will be addressed.

Completion of this training will meet one of the requirements necessary for the NCPGP Provider Registry. Participation in this training does not assure that a provider will be selected for the NCPGP Registry, but it is a required component of becoming an NCPGP provider. More Information about Sure Bet Trainings:

Sure Bet One - What constitutes a problem with gambling? And how do professionals assist individuals whose gambling is creating problems in their home and work lives? This  workshop will provide in-depth knowledge about problem and gambling disorder, treatment interventions, gambling counseling theory and practice, regulations and ethical issues, and financial aspects of remuneration.

Sure Bet Two - This workshop will provide in-depth knowledge and practice skills using Motivational Interviewing and financial counseling in problem gambling services to special populations (e.g. military, adolescents, young adults, older adults and females) and their non-gambling family members.

Sure Bet Three - The sports betting culture seems to be taking over traditional sports viewing & fandom in the US and globally at a very fast rate. Every game, in every sport viewed on the major US networks are now promoting sports betting venues at every opportunity, while in-game sporting apps are being introduced by the dozens. How can we treat individuals with such an onslaught of technology and options that now inhabit the sports viewing space; and in a country that has historically promoted sports viewing/participation as a healthy & productive lifestyle? This workshop will explore and focus on the individual approaches to those experiencing problem sports betting issues and the dilemma of sports viewing, being a fan and successful treatment.
