NITEWD logoAdvanced Training in Trauma Practice Through a Racial Equity Lens: The Case of Diego

This training occurs over the course of two days- May 8th and May 22nd. You must attend both days to receive CE credit.

This training will increase practitioner competency in implementing evidence-based trauma informed practice elements using a racial equity lens. Topics of focus will include identification of specific ways that a child’s development may be affected by trauma and appropriate application of practice elements used with children and caregivers. Also included will be the impact of client and therapist positionality on the therapeutic alliance, and increased understanding of how oppression and discrimination affect children and families in relation to trauma interventions.

Case: Diego, a Mexican American 17-year-old who lives with his mother in an African American and White urban neighborhood where poverty is prevalent and where he has witnessed, and become involved in, significant gang activity.  


Target audience: Mental health practitioners and clinicians who have completed the Core Components and Skills for Trauma Informed Practice Online Course.

Continuing Education:

The UNC School of Social Work has been approved by NBCC as an Approved Continuing Education Provider, ACEP No. 6642. Programs that do not qualify for NBCC credit are clearly identified. The UNC School of Social Work is solely responsible for all aspects of the programs. The successful completion of this online course qualifies for 4 contact hours.

The UNC School of Social Work, provider number 1406 , is approved to offer social work continuing education by the Association of Social Work Boards (ASWB) Approved Continuing Education (ACE) program. Organizations, not individual courses, are approved as ACE providers. State and provincial regulatory boards have the final authority to determine whether an individual course may be accepted for continuing education credit. The UNC School of Social Work maintains responsibility for this course. ACE provider approval period: 8/10/2022-8/10/2025. Social workers completing this course receive 4 continuing education credits.

Confirmation Notices and Certificates of Completion:
We will confirm your registration by email after registration is received. The email will contain instructions on how to join the webinar along with the link. Successful completion includes full attendance for both training sessions. Within 7 days of the conclusion of the webinar, you will receive an email notifying you that the evaluations and certificates are ready. The email will include a link to https://bhs.unc.edu where you can log in using the username and password you chose at registration. Once you have logged in, you will see the training titles listed under "My Courses" on the left side. After clicking on the link, you will be taken to another page where you can click the link to the event evaluation. Once you have completed and submitted your evaluation, you can click on the link to access the Certificate of Completion. Your Certificate will be emailed to you as a PDF document.
