This online course provides an overview of Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorders (FASDs) and dispels several myths around the causes of FASDs as well as the effects of other teratogens. Discussed in the course are terminology, diagnostic criteria, national and state statistics, the course of the disorder throughout the lifespan, interventions, and prevention measures.
This course is designed for Social Workers, Addictions Counselors and other mental health professionals. Social Workers at all levels of experience and licensure will be able to explore and gain a better working knowledge of FASD.
LEARNING OBJECTIVES
- Increase awareness of causes, signs, and prevalence of FASD so clinicians can provide accurate information to clients.
- Increase understanding the potential range of effects from prenatal exposure to alcohol on functioning so clinicians can better help families adapt their environments to support children and adolescents who have been affected by prenatal alcohol exposure.
