NC Pregnancy and Opioid Exposure
The Substance Use Disorder in Women’s program includes the NC Pregnancy and Opioid Exposure Project and the Work First/ Child Protective Services Initiative. The NC Pregnancy and Opioid Exposure Project is an umbrella under which information, resources and technical assistance are disseminated regarding the subject of pregnancy and opioid exposure. The project web site, ncpoep.org, is hosted by UNC School of Social Work and is funded by the federal Substance Abuse Prevention and Treatment Block Grant Fund (CFDA #93.959) as a project of the NC Division of Mental Health, Developmental Disabilities & Substance Abuse Services.
Work First/CPS
The Work First/CPS Substance Use Initiative supports and tracks the voluntary mental health screenings of the Work First applicants and subsequent connection to mental health treatment providers and the provisions of services to families whose CPS cases have been substantiated or found in need of services with an indication of a substance use disorder. This initiative addresses barriers to self-sufficiency for individuals whose possible substance use disorder is jeopardizing their family. The North Carolina Division of Mental Health, Developmental Disabilities and Substance Use Services (DMH/DD/SUS) holds a Memorandum of Agreement with the North Carolina Division of Social Services (DSS) for the joint management of this Initiative. The joint responsibilities include developing and providing training for county DSS’s and the LME-MCO’s along with their contracted providers regarding Work First and substance use disorders.
