Sure Bet Two: Dealing with Problem Gambling Raleigh, NC 4-14/15-2020

Training Description:

To raise awareness and provide education, the North Carolina Problem Gambling Program (NCPGP) and the Division of MH/DD/SAS are sponsoring a two-day workshop to provide in-depth knowledge about problem gambling and treatment interventions. In this training, detailed discussions and treatment strategies to effectively treat adolescent, young adult, older adult and female populations, provide culturally competent problem gambling counseling, conduct in-depth financial counseling and learn Motivational Interviewing strategies are included in this fifteen hour training. Registration is open however, previous attendance at Sure Bet One or prior Problem Gambling Training is recommended. Completion of this training will meet one of the requirements necessary for the NCPGP Provider Registry. Participation in this training does not assure that a provider will be selected for the NCPGP Registry, but it is a required component of becoming an NCPGP provider.

Learning Objectives:

  • Identify and provide services for special populations including military, teens, seniors and women.
  • Provide culturally competent counseling for problem gamblers and concerned others.
  • Conduct in-depth financial counseling for problem gamblers and concerned others.
  • Demonstrate Motivational Interviewing strategies that work with concerned others.

Registration 8:00 – 8:30
8:30 am -5:30 pm both days
Lunch (provided) 12:00 – 1:00 both days
 
Target Audience:
Mental health professionals including psychologists, clinical social workers, licensed professional counselors, marriage and family therapists, substance abuse counselors, pastoral counselors, school counselors, clergy, school administrators, recreational therapists, peer support specialists and all those interested in learning about problem gambling.
 

Registration:
$25 registration fee for each two-day event.  Pre-registration is required and registration fees are due on or before the program date unless your organization is paying the fee as authorized by your supervisor on the registration form.  No refunds will be issued.  Fee includes credit, lunch, refreshments and handouts. 

Refund Policy:

Participants can request a refund up to 2 weeks in advance of training.

Inclement Weather Policy:

Any announcements regarding changes to the schedule due to inclement weather will be posted on https://bhs.unc.edu.  Registered participants will also be notified by email.

Confirmation Notices and Certificates of Completion:

We will confirm your registration by email after payment is received. Successful completion includes full attendance for the entire day. Within 7 days of the conclusion of the event, you will receive an email notifying you that the evaluations and certificates are ready. The email will include a link to https://bhs.unc.edu where you can login using the username and password you chose at registration. Once you have logged in, you will see the training titles listed under "My Courses" on the left side. After clicking on the link, you will be taken to another page where you can click the link to the event evaluation. Once you have completed and submitted your evaluation, you can click on the link to access the Certificate of Completion. Your Certificate will emailed to you as a PDF document.

Continuing Education for Marketing:

The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill School of Social Work has been approved by NBCC as an Approved Continuing Education Provider, ACEP No. 6642.  Programs that do not qualify for NBCC credit are clearly identified.  The UNC Chapel Hill School of Social Work is solely responsible for all aspects of the programs.  15 contact hours

This course has been approved by the North Carolina Substance Abuse Professional Practice Board for 15 SS contact hours.  NCSAPPB Approval # 19-415-S
