02/02/2021 Helping Problem Gamblers Cultivate Stress Coping Strategies

This workshop presents practical clinical strategies to help problem gamblers enhance stress coping in to attenuate tendencies to gamble in the wake of stressful life experiences. Dr. Reid will present a model of stress coping and discuss empirically supported interventions (e.g., biofeedback, mindfulness, cognitive strategies, etc…) for clinical application. TedTalk from Dr. McConigal will be suggested along with several findings from neuroscience and research on stress coping. Mindful approaches to increasing stress coping will be addressed. Cognitive reappraisal of distortions associated with stress proneness will be discussed.
